Medicaid Coverage

The Maryland Medical Assistance program covers:

  • Bupropion (Zyban)
  • Group Counseling
  • Individual Counseling

Most available medications vary by health plan; all plans cover patch. Co-payments are required. Group counseling is available at some hospitals. Treatment may be limited in other ways, depending on health plan.

Private Insurance Coverage

Health plans that cover prescription drugs in Maryland are required to cover two 90-day courses of prescription NRTs per year. Coverage of over-the-counter NRTs is not required.

The American Lung Association's Freedom From Smoking® program is available in limited locations throughout Maryland.
