ASTHMA PROGRAMS:
Camp Superkids - a medically supervised, weeklong camp for children with moderate to severe asthma. This camp offers a week of fun and learning for children ages 7-11 who take daily asthma medications. In June of 2003, the American Lung Association of Missouri celebrated Camp Superkids’ 20th year! Campers stay in air-conditioned cabins and receive 24-hour medical supervision by volunteer physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and child life specialists. Health care professionals teach asthma education classes daily. Campers learn to increase their independence, improve self-image and social skills and learn to better manage their disease. In addition, campers enjoy activities including swimming, fishing, horseback riding, canoeing, crafts and other outdoor sports. Financial assistance is available. For more information contact Sue King at (314) 645-5505 or toll free at 1-800-LUNG-USA or sking@alaem.org.
Open Airways for Schools - a school-based, interactive asthma management program for children ages 8-11 to help them learn how to manage their disease and how to lead healthy productive lives. For more information contact Sue King at (314) 645-5505 or toll free at 1-800-LUNG-USA or sking@alaem.org.

The Asthma Educator Course - a program that teaches health care providers (nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists and medical social workers) how to become asthma educators to patients and family members, helping them understand both the disease and ways to treat it. The next course is scheduled for November 6 & 7, 2003. For more information contact Sue King at (314) 645-5505 or toll free at 1-800-LUNG-USA or sking@alaem.org.
