Lung Disease
At the American Lung Association of the City of New York, we support healthcare policy initiatives that promote the treatment and prevention of lung diseases, including tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, lung cancer, pneumonia, influenza and other lung diseases. We support programs that provide care to chronically ill and home-based lung disease patients, and reimbursement for pulmonary rehabilitation.
Important Legislation before the NYC Council
We are actively supporting the New York City Health Care Security Act (Intro. 468), which will increase access to affordable health care for low income New Yorkers. Over 1.8 million New Yorkers do not have healthcare – a full quarter of our city’s population. The Health Care Security Act will impact over 400,000 working New Yorkers in the service and retail industries by targeting five service sectors and presenting employers a choice: offer their workers the industry’s prevailing level of health care or pay into a citywide fund to provide workers health care coverage.
