Asthma Camp is a life-changing place where kids can learn the boundaries of asthma don't have to hold them back anymore. A place where kids can test the limits of their own self-definition.
June 20-26, 2004, kids with asthma who are ages 8-14, are invited to attend Asthma Camp at Camp Foster YMCA of the Okoboji's on East Lake Okoboji, Iowa, sponsored by the American Lung Association of South Dakota.
Kids spend each day learning about asthma and managing their disease. Kids can better understand what asthma actually is, how asthma attacks start, how they can be avoided, and then what to do. They'll learn the difference between medications they take to prevent attacks and the medications they take to stop an attack. Asthma Camp will teach them about the responsibility they have in controlling their own asthma. They'll learn about the importance of working with parents and physicians for their own best care plan.
Medical professionals trained in asthma management are available 24 hours a day. The medical support team includes doctors who specialize in treating asthma (pediatricians, pulmonologists and allergists) plus nurses and respiratory theraptists with several years experience in working with children in camp.
Camp fee is $389 with full and partial camperships available.
