Quit Smoking for Good!

Put your smoking habit out for good with the American Lung Association’s award-winning program, Freedom From Smoking® Smoking Cessation classes are being offered in Chico, Oroville and Paradise.

Freedom From Smoking® is a program of eight sessions over a seven-week period led by a trained facilitator who understands how hard it is to quit. The program uses a positive behavior change approach and helps participants develop their own individualized quitting plan. Camp is Coming!

Mark your calendars: Camp SuperStuff 2003 will be held August 8-10 at Lassen Pines Retreat Center in Viola. This annual weekend camp is for asthmatic children ages 6-12. Camp SuperStuff allows kids with asthma to experience camp activities such as swimming, canoeing, arts & crafts and games, at a pace generated to meet their needs. Educational sessions instill confidence in campers and teach them to manage their asthma.

The cost to attend this medically-supervised camp is $110 per child. Full and partial scholarships are available to qualified applicants, and bus transportation is also available.

We are currently looking for volunteers to be camp counselors this year. For more detailed information, to volunteer at the camp, or to become a sponsor, call 1-800-LUNG-USA.

Spread the word that Camp SuperStuff is coming!

    SMOKEFREEHOUSING.ORG

Ever wondered if there were any smoke-free apartment complexes? Bothered by that friendly neighbor who always smokes in your apartment complex’s laundry room? The American Lung Association of CA Superior Branch is working on a solution.

The ALA received a grant from the State of CA Tobacco Control Section to increase the number of smoke-free apartments and condominiums in Chico, Redding, and Marysville. Participating properties could be entirely smoke-free or have common areas such as the laundry room, mailbox area, swimming pool, etc. as smoke-free. Anything that goes beyond CA law is a start!

Under contract with the ALA, Matsom and Isom designed a website to assist property owners and tenants with their search for smoke-free living. The program is just starting but if you rent or have property in Chico, Redding or Marysville- We want to talk to you!

Property owners who sign an agreement creating smoke-free areas on their property are eligible to be listed on the website for free. There is extensive paid media planned to promote the website. Potential tenants who are looking for a smoke-free place to live can search the website for openings near them. Check out the website at smokefreehousing.org.
