Open Airways for Schools
Award winning program teaches children, ages 8-11, how to detect the warning
signs of asthma, and to identify environmental factors that can trigger an
attack. This us accomplished in a series of six lessons of 40 minutes each,
taught by trained instructors. Every child can become an asthma expert.
Camp Wyatt
Camp Wyatt is the only camp in the Intermountain area to cater solely to
children (ages 8-14) with asthma. Campers discover they
aren't the only one with asthma, and gain greater confidence and higher
self-esteem.
Freedom From Smoking®
An 8-week group session, the American Lung Association "Freedom From Smoking"
clinic is considered bymanyto be the gold standard of smoking cessation
programs. In addition, the ALAU offers monthly hypnosis sessions and
self-help programs, all at a nominal cost.
Research
The Cardiovascular Research & Training Institute at the University of Utah is
one of three Asthma Centers currently funded by the American Lung Association
in the amount of $2.5 million over a five year period. Dr. Thomas Mclntyre is
the Principal Investigator. The Utah Center is focused on inflammation since
it plays a central role in asthma, determining the likelihood, length and
severity of asthma episodes.

Quarterly newsletters answer questions and offer suggestions that are
intended to ease living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
